How to verify it

Calculate 8 mod 8 and 16 mod 8 for the two Kun trigrams, then use (8 + 16 + 24) mod 6 for moving line 6. Flip only the sixth line and compare both binary figures before reading any text.

Time-based formula

tyme4ts converts the current local clock moment to lunar fields. The common Shao Yong formula on this page uses the year-branch number, lunar month, lunar day, and hour-branch number.

  • Upper seed equals year-branch number plus lunar month plus lunar day, reduced modulo 8.
  • Lower seed adds the hour-branch number and is reduced modulo 8.
  • The moving-line seed uses the same total and is reduced modulo 6.
  • A zero remainder maps to trigram 8 or line 6 respectively.

Number-based formula

Number mode accepts three integers from 1 through 99. The first forms the upper-trigram seed, the second forms the lower-trigram seed, and the sum of all three forms the moving-line seed. Every input and result field remains visible for recalculation.

The random button only creates three random seeds. It adds no accuracy. Identical numbers produce an identical hexagram pair, but reproducibility validates only the arithmetic, not the interpretation.

Classical text and cultural gloss

The Judgement and Image are displayed as historical Zhouyi source text. The site summary is labelled as a modern cultural paraphrase. Both may contain language about fortune, advance, retreat, or action, but neither is presented as a factual statement about the current question.

Keep at least two competing readings, supporting evidence, counterevidence, a reversible step, and a stop condition. Do not let the first appealing interpretation become the only story.

Is this the same algorithm as the legacy implementation?

The legacy page did not preserve a fully reproducible record. This version displays the tyme4ts calendar conversion, every seed, both trigrams, moving line, and both hexagrams so the calculation can be checked.

Does the written question affect the hexagram?

No. The question is not passed to the formula. It remains only in the browser-side review record, so the result cannot understand the question’s meaning or context.

Should I cast the same question again when I dislike the result?

No. Repeated casting encourages selection of the answer you already wanted. Save the first record, verify the real facts, choose a low-risk next step, and review later. Reformulate only when the situation or the question has materially changed.
